As soon as it starts to get warmer, the number of removals in Switzerland increases noticeably. Spring — particularly the months of March to May — is traditionally considered the high season for moving companies. There are many reasons for this: rental contracts often expire at the end of the quarter, the weather is more pleasant than in winter, the days are longer and the motivation to restart is particularly high after winter.
But anyone moving during high season quickly realizes that demand is high, available dates are limited and prices can be correspondingly higher. With the right planning, however, this is easy to manage — and a spring move can still be a clever and pleasant experience.
Despite higher demand, moving in spring has clear advantages over other seasons — and not just better weather.
In spring, you benefit from significantly more daylight than in autumn or winter. This makes it possible to plan a moving day more efficiently: The team can start earlier, has more hours available and the risk of having to work in the dark towards evening is low. This is not only practical, but also safer when loading and unloading.
In contrast to a summer move in extreme heat or a winter move when there is ice and snow, the spring months offer ideal conditions. Furniture and electronics neither overheat when transported in the sun, nor do stairways need to be secured when slippery. Temperatures between 10 and 20 degrees are considered optimal for moving.
Psychologically speaking, there is no better time to make a fresh start than spring. Nature is awakening, the atmosphere is good — and it is precisely this positive energy that can be perfectly transferred to the new living situation. A spring move literally feels like a fresh start.

The most important tip: If you plan early, you save. Professional moving companies sell out quickly during high season. Those who book their preferred date 6 to 8 weeks in advance not only have a larger selection, but can often also benefit from more favourable conditions. Short-term bookings during high season are usually more expensive — if still available at all.
Friday and Saturday are the most popular moving days — and often the most expensive. If you are flexible and schedule your move on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, you can get cheaper rates depending on the provider. Moving in the early morning or at the beginning of the month can also pay off in terms of price.
The less volume that needs to be transported, the cheaper the move will be. Use the weeks before the spring move for consistent spring cleaning: Donate, sell or dispose of what you no longer need. Fewer boxes mean less transport time — and that has a direct impact on the price.
